Carlos Wernicke & Merlin String Quartet

Carlos Wernicke & Merlin String Quartet brings together guitar and string quartet in a rare, luminous chamber formation, showcasing repertoire written (or arranged) to highlight the ensemble’s unusual colour and intimacy. The programme moves from the expressive intensity of Vivaldi’s Concerto in D (including its celebrated Largo), to the elegant bridge between folk and classical idioms in Guastavino’s Jeromita Linares, and the majestic brilliance of Boccherini’s famous Fandango. The arc culminates in the radiant energy of Bach’s Sinfonia from Cantata BWV 29, framed by duo moments for cello–guitar and violin–guitar (Saint-Saëns and Fauré).
